Growing up in New York, I ate bagels weekly, if not daily. We would wake up early, grab bagels, and head over to the beach so we could enjoy our bagels with a view. Everything bagels with cream cheese were my go-to and honestly, still are. And as a person who LOVES spicy food, I would add red pepper flakes to the cream cheese to give it a little kick. When my body decided to stop letting me eat whatever I want, in my mid-twenties I switched to an everything bagel with avocado and red pepper flakes instead. But now I can get the flavor I love on everything with my Everything Bagel Seasoning.
Everything Bagel Seasoning
- 1 ½ tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp poppy seeds
- 1 ½ tbsp black sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp minced garlic
- 1 ½ tbsp minced onion
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp course salt
- Add all ingredients together and mix
- Store in an air tight container
As I became more and more conscious about what food I was eating and putting into my body I wanted to still remember that great childhood of eating bagels at the beach with my family and friends. There came my Everything Bagel Seasoning. I add this to almost everything, avocado toast, chickpeas, salads, sweet potato chips, and you HAVE TO TRY my lightened up everything bagel dip.
This recipe is so simple to make and store. We use these ball jars to store our seasoning. You will want to make sure you are storing this in an air tight container, the minced onion and garlic in this Everything Bagel Seasoning can be a little over powering in your pantry. I have made that mistake before and my roommates at the time we’re well, not very happy with me. But, once I made them my lightened up everything bagel dip to watch movies, I was back on their good side!
Now if you don’t like the added spice to your Everything Bagel Seasoning you can leave out the red pepper flakes. Another twist you can try to give this seasoning another bite of flavor is to add fennel seeds. That makes this seasoning so savory. I love to do that to make chicken with the seasoning, the fennel really gives this a tangy blend.
